The Max Planck Institute for Brain Research (MPI for Brain Research) in Frankfurt/Main is a leading research institution in the field of basic neuroscience research, with a focus on understanding the functions of the brain’s circuits. Our institute has approx. 220 employees in three research departments and several research groups, as well as service units.
The ‘Brain Algorithms and Circuits’ research group of Dr. Gregor Schuhknecht is searching for a
Our research interest is to investigate how the synaptic circuitry of the vertebrate brain gives rise to the computational algorithms that animals use to solve real-world behavioral problems. We study this question in the larval zebrafish, where we can combine behavioral experiments, and state-of-the-art functional imaging, electrophysiology, and electron microscopy techniques. For more details, please visit our lab’s website.
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher (m/f/d) with a strong experimental background in systems neuroscience and a deep interest in understanding how vertebrate brain circuits give rise to computation.
The ideal candidate has excellent quantitative and data analysis skills, a proven ability to work independently, and a collaborative mindset. They will be expected to lead their own research projects, contribute to collaborative efforts within the lab, and mentor junior researchers. While the position is fully funded, applicants will be strongly encouraged to apply for independent career fellowships.
We offer:
The Max Planck Society is committed to increasing the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals.
The Max Planck Society strives for gender equality and diversity. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
The compatibility of work and family is very important to us; we offer the possibility of childcare in the kindergarten Kairos close to our institute. For more information, please visit our website.
We look forward to receiving your application by April 13, 2026, via the Max Planck Postdoc Application Platform (https://postdocprogram.mpg.de/).
